You will not see any dots, stars, or other characters appearing in the terminal as you type your password \dash this is an extra security feature to help protect your password from any prying eyes.} For example, the following command would open Ubuntu's default text editor \application{gedit} with root privileges. You will then be able to edit important system files that would otherwise be protected. The password you use with \commandlineapp{sudo} is the same password that you use to log in to your primary account, and is set up during the Ubuntu installation process.
