On the upper left corner of the toolbar, there are two arrow icons. These are similar to the ``\button{Back}'' and ``\button{Forward}'' history functionality in web browsers. The \application{Files} application keeps track of where you are and allows you to backtrack if necessary. As such, the buttons \button{Previous visited location} and \button{Next visited location} allow you to navigate through your directory browsing history.

The left pane of the file browser \dash titled \emph{Places} \dash has shortcuts to commonly used directories. You can also bookmark a directory through the toolbar by choosing \menu{Bookmarks \then Bookmark this Location}. Once you have bookmarked the directory, it should appear in the left pane.
