EVENT is the name of an event the init daemon should emit, which may have zero or more arguments specified by ARG. These may be matched in the job definition, and are passed to any scripts run by the job.

Events may also pass environment variables to the job scripts, defined using -e. A value may be specified in the option, or if omitted, the value is taken from the environment or ignored if not present there.
