Authentication requires access to the password field, that should be not accessible by default. Another issue is that during password change using <command>passwd</command>, <emphasis>shadowLastChange</emphasis> needs to be accessible by authenticated users. The following code, from <application>/etc/ldap/slapd.conf</application>, shows the default ACL setting that permits the <emphasis>admin</emphasis> user and authenticated users access to shadowLastChange:
