\application{Thunderbird} will automatically check your email account for new messages every ten minutes, but if you need to manually check for new messages at any time, left-click the \button{Get Mail} button in the top left corner of the workspace. \application{Thunderbird} will then check your email account for new messages and download them.

When you click on one of your emails, it will appear in the window below your email list. If you want to view your email in a full window, double-left-click your chosen email, and \application{Thunderbird} will display the email in a full window in its own tab.

You may want to filter your emails from time to time; this is easily done with \application{Thunderbird}. When you have an email selected and you want to tag the email, simply click the \button{Tag} button and a drop-down list will be displayed. In this drop-down list, you have the options to \menu{Remove All Tags} or \menu{Mark as\ldots}, \menu{Important}, \menu{Work}, \menu{Personal}, \menu{To Do}, \menu{Later}. You can also \menu{create a New Tag} more suited to your own personal requirements.

Contacts who are listed on the \textfield{To:} and \textfield{Cc:} lines will receive the email, and will see the rest of the contacts to whom an email was sent. If you would like to send an email to some contacts without disclosing to whom your email was sent, you can send a blind carbon-copy, or \textfield{Bcc}. To enable \textfield{Bcc}, select \textfield{Bcc:} by clicking the \textfield{To:} field and selecting \textfield{Bcc:}. Instead of typing the email addresses or names of the contacts you are addressing in the message, you can select the contacts from your address book. Start typing a few letters from your contact's first or last name in the \textfield{To:} field to filter the list to only show mailing contacts. Once you identify the contact you would like to address, click on their name in the list. If you've added the contact in error, delete their address and enter the correct address.
