Once Ubuntu is up and running, you will see the default desktop. We will talk more about how to actually use Ubuntu in \chaplink{ch:the-ubuntu-desktop}, but for now, feel free to test things out. Open some applications, change settings and generally explore\dash any changes you make will not be saved once you exit, so you don't need to worry about accidentally breaking anything.

We recommend 15~\acronym{GB} or more. This will ensure that you will have plenty of room to install extra applications later on, as well as store your own documents, music, and photos. To get started, place the Ubuntu \acronym{DVD} in your \acronym{DVD} drive and restart your computer. Your computer should load Ubuntu from the \acronym{DVD}. When you first start from the \acronym{DVD}, you will be presented with a screen asking you whether you want to first try out Ubuntu or install it. Select the language you want to view the installer in and click on the \button{Install Ubuntu} button. This will start the installation process.

If you have an Internet connection, the installer will ask you if you would like to ``Download updates while installing.'' We recommend you do so. The second option, ``Install this third-party software,'' includes the Fluendo \acronym{MP3} codec, and software required for some wireless hardware. If you are not connected to the Internet, the installer will help you set up a wireless connection.
