As discussed in \chaplink{ch:default-applications}, Ubuntu offers you a wide range of applications for your daily work. Ubuntu comes with a basic set of applications for common tasks like surfing the Internet, checking your email, listening to music, and organizing your photos and videos. Sometimes you may need an extra level of specialization: for example you may want to retouch your photos, run some software for your business, or play some new games. In each of these cases you can search for an application, install it and use it \dash usually, with no extra cost.

Zoals besproken in \chaplink{ch:default-applications} heeft u in Ubuntu de beschikking over een groot aantal toepassingen die geschikt zijn voor vele dagelijkse taken. Op een gegeven moment kunt u beslissen een andere webbrowser te proberen, een andere e-mailclient in te stellen, een audiobestand te bewerken of (bijvoorbeeld) een aantal nieuwe spellen te proberen. Hiervoor is het nodig nieuwe software te installeren. Ubuntu beschikt over veel software\glspl{package}; het zoeken en installeren van wat u wilt is zo snel en eenvoudig mogelijk gemaakt.
