\marginnote{What is a Directory? Or a Folder? A directory is a division of space in a file system that you can use to organize files. A folder is the name given to a directory in a Graphical User Interface (\acronym{GUI}) environment like \application{Nautilus}.} To navigate between folders, use the bookmarks in the left pane of the \application{Nautilus} file manager. You can also retrace your steps by clicking on the name of a folder in the path bar. Double-clicking on a visible folder will cause you to navigate to it.

To create a new folder from within \application{Nautilus}, click \menu{File \then Create Folder}. Then, name the folder that appears by replacing the default ``Untitled Folder'' with your desired label (\eg, ``Personal Finances''). You can also create a new folder by pressing \keystroke{Ctrl+Shift+N}, or by right-clicking in the file browser window and selecting \button{Create Folder} from the popup menu (this action will also work on the desktop).
