Every application has a menu (like \menu{File}, \menu{Edit}, \menu{View} etc.), called the \emph{application menu}. In Unity, the application menu isn't on the titlebar of the application, like in other desktop environments, but is instead located on the left area of the \menu{Top Bar}. To show an application's menu, just move your mouse to the \menu{Top Bar}. This is the second key concept of the \menu{Top Bar}, the incorporation of application menus on the \menu{Top Bar}. This feature of \emph{Unity} provides you with more free work space; especially beneficial for netbook and laptop users.\marginnote{Note that some older applications may still display their menu within the application window.}

Elke toepassing heeft een menu (zoals \menu{Bestand}, \menu{Bewerken}, \menu{Beeld} enz.), het \emph{toepassingenmenu} genaamd. In Unity bevindt het toepassingenmenu zich niet in de titelbalk van de toepassing, zoals in andere werkbladomgevingen, maar in het linkergedeelte van de \menu{Bovenbalk}. Om een menu van een toepassing te tonen gaat u met uw muis naar de \menu{Bovenbalk}. Dit is het tweede belangrijke concept van de \menu{Bovenbalk}, het opnemen van toepassingenmenu's in de \menu{Bovenbalk}. Deze functie van \emph{Unity} biedt u meer vrije werkruimte; dit komt vooral goed van pas bij netbook- en laptopcomputers.\marginnote{Sommige oudere toepassingen kunnen mogelijk hun menu nog binnen het venster van de toepassing weergeven.}
