If you want to show off your photos in all of their glory, why not run a slideshow of them?

Double-click the photo you want to print to open it in the <application>Image Viewer</application>

Under <guilabel>Format for</guilabel>, select the printer which you are going to use

Under <guilabel>Paper size</guilabel>, select the size of the paper which you are going to print the photo onto

Under <guilabel>Orientation</guilabel>, choose the orientation of the photo on the paper

Make sure that you select your printer from the list on the <guilabel>General</guilabel> tab to get the full range of settings supported by your printer.

Different makes of printer will have different printer settings. The settings below are only provided as a guide for what you may be able to change with your particular printer.

This setting may automatically change the amount of ink which is used, in order to get the best results and to prevent smudging. How this is handled will depend on your printer.

Print quality is generally measured in <emphasis>DPI</emphasis> (dots per inch). A greater DPI value should result in better print quality.

Choose <guilabel>Draft</guilabel> for making quick draft prints which don't use much ink

For advanced photo printing, <ulink url="apt:photoprint">install the <application>PhotoPrint</application> package</ulink> from the universe repository. Once installed, press <menuchoice><guimenu>Applications</guimenu><guimenuitem>Graphics</guimenuitem><guimenuitem>PhotoPrint</guimenuitem></menuchoice> to start PhotoPrint.

Under <guilabel>Page Size</guilabel>, change the page size to the size of paper that you want to print onto.

Under <guilabel>Layout</guilabel>, change the number of columns and rows to reflect the number of photos that you want to put onto a page

To change the amount of spacing between photos, change the <guilabel>Gap</guilabel> settings next to <guilabel>Columns</guilabel> and <guilabel>Rows</guilabel> under <guilabel>Layout</guilabel>

You may need to select the correct printer model on the <guilabel>Output</guilabel> tab

The GIMP has many professional-level features. It includes tools for selections, drawing, creating paths, masks, filters, effects, and more.

You may find that you have some photos which are the wrong way up. It is easy to rotate photos so that they're the right way up again.

You can resize photos which are too big. If you have a photo which has a large file size, resizing it will also reduce the file size.

The <application>GIMP Image Editor</application> supports several methods of resizing photos. We will concentrate on the simplest method.

Adjust the <guilabel>Width</guilabel> or <guilabel>Height</guilabel> as appropriate. The image will be kept to scale.

This section describes how to import, organize and use music, videos and photos with Ubuntu.

Music player applications fetch cover art and other information about songs from the Internet. If song names or cover art are missing, make sure that you are connected to the Internet.

Rename the picture to <filename>cover.jpg</filename> and copy it into the folder which contains the songs from the album.

To begin creating an audio CD, start Brasero (<menuchoice><guimenu>Applications</guimenu><guimenuitem>Sound &amp; Video</guimenuitem><guimenuitem>Brasero Disc Burner</guimenuitem></menuchoice>) and select <guibutton>Audio project</guibutton> from the main screen. Then, select the songs that you want to add to the CD and add them to the project. Finally, click <guibutton>Burn</guibutton> to copy the songs to a CD.

Neither the iPod Touch nor the iPhone are officially supported by any Linux music management applications at this time.

A number of MP3 players, such as those produced by Samsung use Media Transfer Protocol (MTP). These devices, when used with the correct driver, often appear in Windows as a media device but can be accessed as a USB device.

Install the <ulink url="apt:mtpfs"><application>mtpfs</application></ulink> and <ulink url="apt:mtp-tools"><application>mtp-tools</application></ulink> packages.

Your device will now be displayed in the left hand pane under <guilabel>Devices</guilabel> when connected.

Jamendo Store

The <emphasis>Jamendo</emphasis> store sells free, legal and unlimited music published under the six <ulink url="http://creativecommons.org/">Creative Commons</ulink> licenses. You can browse the catalog and play songs by choosing <guilabel>Jamendo</guilabel> in the <guilabel>Stores</guilabel> list in the side pane. Magnatune Store

The <emphasis>Magnatune</emphasis> store sells music from independent musicians. They work directly with artists and hand-pick the songs available. Their catalog is composed of high quality, non-DRM (no copy protection) music and covers a variety of genres from Classical and Jazz to Hip Hop and Hard Rock. You can browse the catalog and play songs by choosing <guilabel>Magnatune</guilabel> in the <guilabel>Stores</guilabel> list in the side pane. More information about their catalog and subscription service can be found at <ulink url="http://www.magnatune.com/">the Magnatune website</ulink>.

Ubuntu One Music Store

The <emphasis>Ubuntu One Music Store</emphasis> sells music from major and minor music labels around the world. The store offers non-DRM (no copy protection) songs encoded in either high quality MP3 or AAC format. Ubuntu does not come with support for MP3 playback, but the store will install the proper codecs automatically for free. You can browse the catalog, play previews, and buy songs by choosing <guilabel>Ubuntu One</guilabel> in the <guilabel>Stores</guilabel> list in the side pane.

The <application>Ubuntu One Music Store</application> integrates with the <application>Ubuntu One</application> service. An <application>Ubuntu One</application> account is required. All purchases are transfered to your personal cloud storage area and then automatically copied to all of your computers. The catalog of music available for purchase will vary depending on where you live in the world. You can record sounds onto your computer if you have a microphone or other recording equipment connected to it.

To start a basic sound recording application, press <menuchoice><guimenu>Applications</guimenu><guimenuitem>Sound &amp; Video</guimenuitem><guimenuitem>Sound Recorder</guimenuitem></menuchoice>. See the <ulink type="help" url="ghelp:gnome-sound-recorder"> Sound Recorder manual</ulink> for instructions on how to use it.

Most computers have three or more similar-looking audio sockets, so you should check that the microphone is plugged into the correct one. It is usually colored pink and has a microphone icon next to it.

The microphone input may have been muted or its volume reduced in the system settings.

Click the speaker icon on the panel at the top of your screen and select <guilabel>Sound Preferences...</guilabel>. If you do not have a speaker icon on your panel, press <keycombo><keycap>Alt</keycap><keycap>F2</keycap></keycombo>, type <userinput>gnome-volume-control</userinput> and click <guibutton>Run</guibutton> instead.

When the Volume Control opens, click on the <guibutton>Input</guibutton> tab and make sure that your microphone is selected as the device for sound input. Check to make sure that the microphone is not muted and that the input volume is an adequate level. If your primary input device is a sound card (for a microphone with a small jack) then be sure that the correct port is selected in the <guibutton>Connector</guibutton> drop-down menu.

Under the <guilabel>Hardware</guilabel> tab, make sure that your input device is listed. If it is, check to see if the <guibutton>Profile</guibutton> for the device is set for correct input. If your device is not listed, then either the device is not correctly connected to the computer or the sound card/microphone is not a supported device for input.

Some microphones have an integrated volume control. Check that the volume control on your microphone is turned up.

Some applications allow you to change the volume of the microphone from within the application. Check the volume settings in the application that you are using.
