It searches your hard drive for files using pattern matching on meta-data. It extracts file-format specific meta-data using libextractor and builds a suffix tree to index the files. The index can then be searched rapidly. It is similar to locate, but can take advantage of information such as ID3 tags. It is possible to do full-text indexing using the appropriate libextractor plugins. It also supports using FAM to keep the database up-to-date.

Il extrait les méta-données de vos fichiers suivant leur extension à l'aide de la bibliothèque libextractor puis construit un arbre des suffixes pour indexer vos fichiers. L'index peut alors être parcouru rapidement. Ces fonctionnalités sont similaires à celles de locate, mais doodle prend en compte plus d'informations comme par exemple les étiquettes ID3. Il est possible de faire une recherche en texte brut à l'aide des greffons appropriés de la bibliothèque libextractor. Doodle peut aussi utiliser FAM pour garder sa base de données à jour.
