This document contains information on the installed and available office applications for <trademark>Kubuntu</trademark>.

The default office application in <trademark>Kubuntu</trademark> is <application>LibreOffice</application>. It includes <application>Calc</application>, <application>Draw</application>, <application>Impress</application>, <application>Math</application>, and <application>Writer</application>. This suite is the open source equivalent of the <trademark>Microsoft</trademark><application>Office</application> suite, and each application corresponds to a similar product in that line. <application>Calc</application> is similar to <application>Excel</application>, <application>Writer</application> is like <application>Word</application>, <application>Impress</application> is similar to <application>PowerPoint</application>, <application><acronym>Base</acronym></application> and <application>Access</application> have similar functions. <application>LibreOffice</application> applications work well with the files created by their <trademark>Microsoft</trademark> counterparts, with the exception of <trademark>Microsoft</trademark><application>Access</application> files.

All of these applications (except for <application><acronym>Base</acronym></application>) are installed by default. <trademark>Kubuntu</trademark> has renamed the titles listed in the <application>Kickoff Application Launcher</application> (K menu) to reflect how the applications are used. <application>LibreOffice</application><application>Impress</application> (Presentation) can be used to create presentations. Most <application>PowerPoint</application> files can be opened flawlessly in <application>Impress</application>. <application>LibreOffice</application><application>Impress</application> can be launched by going to <menuchoice><guimenu>K menu</guimenu><guisubmenu>Applications</guisubmenu><guisubmenu>Office</guisubmenu><guimenuitem>Presentation (LibreOffice Present</guimenuitem></menuchoice>.

<application>LibreOffice</application><application>Calc</application> (Spreadsheets) is a full-featured spreadsheet program. <application>Calc</application> supports multiple spreadsheets, built-in functions, and can read and write most <trademark>Microsoft</trademark><application>Excel</application> formats. <application>LibreOffice</application><application>Calc</application> can be launched by going to <menuchoice><guimenu>K menu</guimenu><guisubmenu>Applications</guisubmenu><guisubmenu>Office</guisubmenu><guimenuitem>Spreadsheet (LibreOffice Calc)</guimenuitem></menuchoice>.

<application>LibreOffice</application><application>Writer</application> (Word Processor) is a full-featured word processor that can create simple or complex documents.
