Xubuntu is an entirely open source operating system built around the <emphasis>Linux</emphasis> kernel. The Xubuntu community - being a part of the larger Ubuntu community - is built around the ideals enshrined in the <ulink url="http://www.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/philosophy">Ubuntu Philosophy</ulink>: that software should be available free of charge, that software tools should be usable by people in their local language and despite any disabilities, and that people should have the freedom to customize and alter their software in whatever way they see fit. For those reasons, the following principles that Ubuntu is built upon also apply to Xubuntu:
Xubuntu este un sistem de operare complet gratuit construit în jurul kernelului <emphasis>Linux</emphasis>. Comunitatea Xubuntu - fiind o parte a marii comunități Ubuntu - este construită în jurul idealurilor exprimate în <ulink url="http://www.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/philosophy">Filosofiei Ubuntu</ulink>: conform căreia aplicațiile trebuie să fie disponibil fără costuri, că uneltele programelor trebuie să fie folosite de oameni în limba lor locală și în ciuda oricăror dizabilități și că oamenii ar trebui să aibă libertatea de a personaliza și modifica programul lor în orice mod văd ei de cuviință.
