Xubuntu is an entirely open source operating system built around the <emphasis>Linux</emphasis> kernel. The Xubuntu community - being a part of the larger Ubuntu community - is built around the ideals enshrined in the <ulink url="http://www.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/philosophy">Ubuntu Philosophy</ulink>: that software should be available free of charge, that software tools should be usable by people in their local language and despite any disabilities, and that people should have the freedom to customize and alter their software in whatever way they see fit. For those reasons, the following principles that Ubuntu is built upon also apply to Xubuntu:
Xubuntu é um sistema operativo integralmente de fonte aberta desenvolvido à volta do kernel <emphasis>Linux</emphasis>. A comunidade Xubuntu - fazendo parte da comunidade mais alargada Ubuntu - está construida à volta dos ideais defendidos pela<ulink url="http://www.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/philosophy">Filosofia Ubuntu</ulink>: de que o software deve estar disponivel de forma gratuita, que as ferramentas de software deverão ser utilizadas pelas pessoas na sua linguagem local e sem restrições, e de que as pessoas devem ter a liberdade de adaptar e alterar o seu software da forma que melhor lhes convenha.
