Xubuntu is an entirely open source operating system built around the <emphasis>Linux</emphasis> kernel. The Xubuntu community - being a part of the larger Ubuntu community - is built around the ideals enshrined in the <ulink url="http://www.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/philosophy">Ubuntu Philosophy</ulink>: that software should be available free of charge, that software tools should be usable by people in their local language and despite any disabilities, and that people should have the freedom to customize and alter their software in whatever way they see fit. For those reasons, the following principles that Ubuntu is built upon also apply to Xubuntu:
Xubuntu ist ein vollständig quelloffenes Betriebssystem, das auf dem <emphasis>Linux</emphasis>-Kernel basiert. Die Xubuntu-Gemeinschaft - ein Teil der größeren Ubuntu-Gemeinschaft - gründet sich auf die Ideale der <ulink url="http://www.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/philosophy">Ubuntu-Philosophie</ulink>: Dass Software kostenlos erhältlich sein sollte; dass Anwendungen von allen Menschen in ihrer Muttersprache und unabhängig von körperlichen Einschränkungen benutzt werden können; und dass jeder die Freiheit genießt, seine Software so anzupassen und zu verändern, wie er es für nötig hält.
