<h3>Default license</h3>
<p>Use this setting to indicate the default license for content you create or upload to the site. You will be able to override this on each piece of content as you create or upload it.</p>
<p><strong>Note:</strong> The default license for any content is standard copyright, but you may choose a different default license for your content. If you are not sure which default license to choose, please check with your organisation as it may require you to use a specific license.</p>
<p>If in doubt which would be the best default license, you can ask the lawyer at your organisation or consult a copyright lawyer.</p>
<p>If you are a member in multiple institutions and choose "Use institution default", you will not be able to select the institution whose license you want to make the default one. One will be chosen by the system.</p>

<pre>static/images/license/gfdl.png</pre> in the theme.</p>

<h3>Masquerading reason</h3>
<p>Explain why you are logging in as this user. This will be recorded for audit purposes, and the user may be notified depending on the site settings.</p>

<h3>Log events</h3>
<p>Events are generated every time the user does anything significant on the site, such as editing a page.</p>
<p>Optionally, a log of these events can be kept. You can keep either all events, which could be a lot of data and database activity on a busy site, or only those events pertaining to the masquerading of an administrator as another user when using the "Log in as" functionality.
This log is kept in the event_log table in the database. A report of masquerading sessions is available in the "User reports" section of the "User search" administration page.</p>
<p>No matter which setting you choose, all events are still logged in the access log.</p>

<h3>License metadata</h3>
<p>If checked, users will be asked to enter license information for all content
they create and / or upload. This will include the license and optionally also
the licensor and the original URL of the content.</p>
<p>Licenses are stored as URLs of an (external) license document. If the site
administrator configures a list of licenses, name and icon of the license will
be displayed for these licenses.</p>

<h3>Licenses</h3>

<p>The licenses configured here serve three functions:

<ul>

<li>The display name, acronym and icon are shown for the content license rather than the URL.</li>

<li>If the "License metadata" setting is checked in the "General settings" section of "Site options", the licenses are displayed to users when they create content.</li>

<li>Users are restricted to the licenses configured here unless the "Allow custom licenses" setting is checked in the "General settings" section of "Site options".</li>
