This chapter contains information on the available games for Kubuntu natively as well as using emulation to play many of today's top games.

KDE Games (<application>kdegames</application>) can be easily installed with the <application>Adept Package Manager</application>. KDE Games (<application>kdegames</application>) is located in the <emphasis>Main</emphasis> repositories. Refer to the <ulink type="help" url="help:/kubuntu/add-applications/">Adept Package Manager </ulink> section for installation instructions.

Follow the same instructions in the previous paragraph to install single game applications, but instead of searching for <application>kdegames</application>, search for the name of the game instead.

Once installed, start any of the <application>kdegames</application> applications by going to <menuchoice><guimenu>KMenu</guimenu><guisubmenu>Games</guisubmenu></menuchoice> and selecting the game of your choice.

<application>KAsteroids</application> is a fast arcade shooting game where you command a spaceship and survive the passage of an asteroid field by shooting at the asteroids which then split into smaller parts until nothing is left.

<application>KBounce</application> is a game where the object is to catch several moving balls in a rectangular game field by building walls causing you to advance in strategy in order to catch as many balls as possible.

<application>KFouleggs</application> clones the well-known <emphasis>PuyoPuyo</emphasis> game in Japan, and contains modifications of the well-known <emphasis>Tetris</emphasis> game principle.

<application>KGoldrunner</application> is a game of action and puzzle solving. Run through the maze, dodge your enemies, collect all the gold and climb up to the next level.

<application>KSmiletris</application> is yet another clone of <emphasis>Tetris</emphasis>, however it does not quite follow the usual game rules of <emphasis>Tetris</emphasis>

<application>KSnakerace</application> is a fast action game where you control a snake which has to eat, and the more you eat, the larger your snake grows. The goal is to eat as much as possible without colliding with the other snake or the wall, however this becomes more and more difficult the more you eat.

<application>KSpaceDuel</application> is a space game for two players, however one player can be controlled via the computer. Each player controls a satellite that flies around the sun, all the while trying not to collide with anything and trying to shoot at the other space ship.

<application>KTron</application> is based off of the popular computer game for two players as well as the famous movie. It is a fast paced game in which both players have to move and avoid colliding with any walls, the opponent, or the path you or your opponent has created.

<application>Atlantik</application> is an open source game client for <trademark>Monopoly</trademark> like board games which are played on the monopd network.

<application>KBlackbox</application> is a logical game of hide-and-seek, inspired by <emphasis>emacs blackbox</emphasis>, played on a grid of boxes.

<application>Kenolaba</application> is a two player tactical game, following the rules of <emphasis>Abalone</emphasis>, where players try to shove the opponents pieces from the game board.

<application>KMahjongg</application> is a clone of the well known tile based patience game of the same name. Your goal is to empty the board by removing pieces of the same type.

<application>KReversi</application> is a two player game in which players gain the majority of pieces on the board by tactically placing ones pieces to turn over the opponents pieces.

<application>KWin4</application>, or <emphasis>Four wins</emphasis>, is a two player game which follows the rules of the famous <trademark>Connect Four</trademark> game where you have to align four pieces of the same color to win.

<application>Shishen-Sho</application>, similar to <emphasis>Mahjongg</emphasis>, is played by removing all tiles from the field, two at a time by the same type.

Games in the "Board Games" subsection consist of: <placeholder-1/>

<application>KPoker</application> follows the rules of the original <emphasis>Poker</emphasis> game. The game provides a computer player and various carddecks.

<application>Lieutnant Skat</application> is a two player card game which follows the rules of the German game, <emphasis>(Offiziers)-Skat</emphasis>. The game includes various carddecks and a computer opponent can play for any of the players.

Games in the "Card Games" subsection consist of: <placeholder-1/>

<application>KTuberling</application>, or the <emphasis>Potato Game</emphasis> is intended for young children, however some adults may also find it appeasing. The object is to create your very own potato-like guy from a selection of eyes, mouths, mustaches, and other parts of the face. Other items can also be attached.

Tactics &amp; Strategy Games

<application>KAtomic</application> is a thinking game where you have to form chemical molecules out of atoms. This is done by moving each atom in a labyrinth until you have formed a molecule.

<application>KBattleship</application> is an implementation of the popular game where your goal is to sink your opponents ships. Play against the computer or against others online via the Internet. "<emphasis>You sunk my battleship!</emphasis>"

<application>Klickety</application> is an adaption of the <emphasis>Clickomania</emphasis> game in which the rules are similar to those of the <application>Same Game</application>. The goal is to clear the board by clicking on groups to destroy them.

<application>KMines</application> is a clone of the classical <emphasis>Minesweeper</emphasis> game where you have to find mines by logical deduction.

<application>Kolor Lines</application>, or <application>KLines</application>, is the KDE version of the Russian game <emphasis>Lines</emphasis> where you have to align five game pieces of the same color in one line to remove them from the gameboard.

<application>KSame</application>, inspired by <emphasis>Same Game</emphasis> is a simple game played for a high score. The object is to remove as many of the same pieces that are touching for the most points. Speed, the amount of pieces removed at once, and the movement of the mouse over possible pieces are taken into account for the final score.

<application>GNOME Games</application> is a collection of games for the GNOME desktop, however they work just as well with the KDE Desktop in Kubuntu. The package is comprised of 16 games which are designed to be simple, but addictive, and are spread out among three subcategories. These subcategories are: <placeholder-1/>

<application>Robots</application> is a game where the object is to avoid a hoard of robots who are trying to defeat you with every step bringing you closer to the action.

<application>Aisleriot</application>, also known as <emphasis>Solitaire</emphasis> or <emphasis>sol</emphasis>, is a collection of card games which are easy to play with the aid of a mouse.

<application>Blackjack</application> is a multiple deck, casino rules blackjack game. The object is to hold cards having a higher count than those of the dealer without going over 21. Face card plus an Ace equals 21, Blackjack!

<application>Freecell</application> is another <emphasis>Solitaire</emphasis> game which is very popular in the <trademark>Windows</trademark> platform.

<application>Five or More</application> is the GNOME port of the once popular <trademark>Windows</trademark> game called <emphasis>Color Lines</emphasis>. The objective is to align, as often as possible, five or more objects of the same color causing them to disappear.

<application>Four-in-a-row</application> is another matching game in which the objective is to build a line of four of your marbles while trying to stop your opponent, human or computer, from building a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line of their own.

<application>Gnometris</application> is a clone of the classic falling-block game, <emphasis>Tetris</emphasis>. The objective of the game is to create complete horizontal lines of blocks, which will disappear creating more space for more possible points. The blocks come in seven different shapes made from four blocks each: one straight, two L-shaped, one square, and two S-shaped. The blocks fall from the top center of the screen in a random order, allowing you to rotate and move them as needed.

<application>Iagno</application> is a computer version of the game <emphasis>Reversi</emphasis>, more popularly known as <emphasis>Othello</emphasis>. It is a two-player strategy game with an 8 by 8 board including tiles that are black on one side and white on the other side. The object is to flip as many of your opponent's tiles to your color as possible without your opponent flipping your tiles. This is done by trapping your opponents tiles between two tiles of your own color.

<application>Klotski</application> is a clone of the original <emphasis>Klotski</emphasis> game in which the objective is to move the patterned block to the area bordered by green markers.

<application>Mines</application>, or <emphasis>gnomine</emphasis>, is a puzzle game where you locate mines floating in an ocean using only your brain and a little bit of luck. <application>Mines</application> is a clone of the popular <trademark>Windows</trademark> game, <emphasis>Minesweeper</emphasis>.

<application>Same Gnome</application> is a highly-addictive puzzle game where the object is to remove the most amount of marbles in as few moves as possible. Marbles that are of the same color and that are adjacent to each other are removed as a group. The remaining marbles will then collapse, filling in the gaps, forming new groups.

<application>GNOME Sudoku</application> is a logic-based placement puzzle in which the objective is to fill the 9 by 9 grid so that each column, row, and each of the nine 3 by 3 boxes contains the digits 1 through 9. The puzzle starts off with a partially completed grid allowing for only one solution.

<application>Tali</application> is like poker, only with dice and no money. The objective is to create the best hand by rolling the five dice three times in which your two re-rolls may include any or all of the dice.

<application>Tetravex</application> is a puzzle where the pieces must be positioned so that the same numbers are touching each other. The game is timed and stored in a system-wide scoreboard.
