Other important global policy settings include the <emphasis role="italic">server string</emphasis> which defines the NETBIOS server name reported by your Ubuntu system to other machines on the Windows-based network. This is the name your Ubuntu system will be recognized as by Windows clients and other computers capable of browsing the network with the SMB protocol. This controls what string will show up in the printer comment box in print manager and next to the IPC connection in net view. It can be any string that you wish to show to your users.
It also sets what will appear in browse lists next to the machine name.
A %v will be replaced with the Samba version number.
A %h will be replaced with the hostname.
Default: server string = Samba %v
Example: server string = University of GNUs Samba Server
Т.о. параметр service string предназначен для задания строки описания сервера SAMBA. В документации на его месте должен находиться параметр netbios name. Так что после исправления англоязычной документации перевод может выглядеть так:
