This section contains information on how to configure your desktop, layout, and themes.

Launch all the applications you want running <emphasis>everytime you log in</emphasis>. Once you have everything set to your satisfaction, click choose <menuchoice><guimenu>K-Menu</guimenu><guisubmenu>Save Session</guisubmenu></menuchoice>. Every time you start KDE, you will return to this configuration.

Another method to do this is to copy the desktop entry of the application you want to autostart from <filename>/usr/share/applications</filename> to the <filename>~/.kde/Autostart</filename> directory.

Go to <application>System Settings</application> by going to <menuchoice><guimenu>KMenu</guimenu><guimenuitem>System Settings</guimenuitem></menuchoice>. Under the <guilabel>Advanced</guilabel> tab select the <guilabel>Login Manager</guilabel>.

Select the <guibutton>Convenience</guibutton> tab. Check the <guilabel>Enable Autologin</guilabel> and select the user to autologin from the drop down menu and select an appropriate time delay.

Press <keycombo><keycap>Ctrl</keycap><keycap>Alt</keycap><keycap>Backspace</keycap></keycombo> to restart KDE or X-Windows.

If <keycombo><keycap>Ctrl</keycap><keycap>Alt</keycap><keycap>Backspace</keycap></keycombo> is disabled, open <application>Konsole</application> by going to <menuchoice><guimenu>KMenu</guimenu><guisubmenu>System</guisubmenu><guimenuitem>Konsole - Terminal Program</guimenuitem></menuchoice>. At the command prompt type the following and press the <keycap>Enter</keycap> key (if asked for a password, type in your user password followed by the <keycap>Enter</keycap> key): <screen> sudo /etc/init.d/kdm restart </screen>
