Most providers send the needed login information per mail. Some providers describe it in odd ways, assuming the user to input the data in their "user-friendly" setup programs. But in fact, these applications generate usuall PPP user names and passwords from the entered data. You can find the real names too and input the correct data in the dialog box.

Die meisten Provider schicken die benötigten Login-Informationen per Post. Einige beschreiben diese auf eine seltsame Art, in der Annahme, der Benutzer würde diese Daten in ihre "benutzer-freundlichen" Setup-Programme eingeben. Aber in Wirklichkeit werden daraus ganz normale PPP-Benutzernamen und -Passwörter generiert, und Sie können das ebenfalls manuell tun und die richtigen Werte in die Dialog-Fenster eingeben.

Many providers have routers that do not support TCP packets with a MSS higher than 1460. Usually, outgoing packets have this MSS when they go through one real Ethernet link with the default MTU size (1500). Unfortunately, if you are forwarding packets from other hosts (i.e. doing masquerading) the MSS may be increased depending on the packet size and the route to the client hosts, so your client machines won't be able to connect to some sites. There is a solution: the maximum MSS can be limited by pppoe. You can find more details about this issue in the pppoe documentation.
Should pppoe clamp MSS at 1452 bytes?
If unsure, say yes.

Viele Provider haben Router, die nur TCP-Pakete mit MSS-Grösse von mehr also 1460 nicht unterstützen. Normalerweise ist das ausreichend für Standard-Verbindungen über genau eine Ethernet-Verbindung mit der Standard-MTU-Grösse (1500). Machen Sie aber Weiterleitung für andere Rechner (z.B. bei Masquerading), kann die MSS-Grösse je nach Paketgrösse und Route zum Client überschritten werden. Deswegen können die Clients bestimmte Adressen nicht mehr erreichen. Es gibt auch eine Lösung: pppoe kann die Grösse der ausgehenden Pakete beschränken. Soll pppoe die MSS-Grösse auf 1452 festlegen?
In Zweifelsfall eher Ja.
