Ubuntu is a South African ethical ideology focusing on people's allegiances and relations with each other. The word comes from the Zulu and Xhosa languages. Ubuntu (pronounced "oo-BOON-too") is seen as a traditional African concept, is regarded as one of the founding principles of the new republic of South Africa and is connected to the idea of an African Renaissance.
Ubuntu ist eine südafrikanische Ethik, die sich mit der Beziehung und der Verpflichtung der Menschen füreinander beschäftigt. Das Wort selbst stammt aus der Sprache der Zulu und Xhosa und wird "u-BUN-tu" ausgesprochen. Das in der Tradition Südafrikas begründete Ubuntu gilt als einer der Grundpfeiler der neuen Südafrikanischen Republik und ist eng mit der der Idee der afrikanischen Wiedergeburt verwoben.

A rough translation of the principle of Ubuntu is "humanity towards others". Another translation could be: "the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity".
Eine knappe und daher auch unzureichende Übersetzung von Ubuntu wäre "Menschsein durch andere". Im weiteren Sinn steht der Begriff für den "Glauben an ein alle Menschen verbindendes Band der gegenseitigen Anteilnahme".
