Create or import a stash

The "Create or import a stash" dialog allows you to create a new stash or to import an existing stash, depending on whether the selected stash directory already contains a stash or not. This is determined by looking for an encfs configuration file (normally ".encfs6.xml"). The list of configuration files can be adjusted in dconf-editor when needed. When you select custom folders, they will be treated as relative to the "mount-dir-base" directory (default is "$HOME/Encfs") unless the selected path is absolute. The proposed mount directory removes a leading dot and a trailing "-encfs" or "_encfs" because a lot of people name their stash directories in those ways. One thing to notice when using GEncfsM is that all stash directories must have their own mount directories.

If you want to access the stash through VMWare or want to share it over samba, you have to allow other users to access it. Please note, that you have to enable the option "user_allow_other" in the file "/etc/fuse.conf" and that file needs to be readable by you for this to work.

The tray menu allows you to quickly mount and unmount your stashes while the icon indicates mounting activity by changing it's color to blue. Unavailable stashes are hidden to not clutter the menu. GEncfsM sets a surveillance on all stashes and will immediately show them when they become available (and if you did not hide it through the configuration pane).

The real strength of GEncfsM lies in its ability to monitor all mounting activity to be able to mount or unmount your stashes seamlessly. E.g. when you plug in a removable drive, it can be automatically mounted without any user interaction. The same goes for network resources (sftp, samba ...) which are accessed through Nautilus (which uses gvfs to mount them) so if you ever wanted to access stashes e.g. on a university server or even a web server, you can do so without any problems.
