The Freedom Toaster runs on an Ubuntu Linux system, so a working knowledge of Linux will be helpful, but is not an absolute necessity, you can pick up the basics of Linux in a good online tutorial. A working knowledge of Web Servers (particularly Apache) would also be helpful.

The Freedom Toaster is setup to provide 'toastable' disk images of specific software and other digital information. If the use of the Freedom Toaster is to provide the community with the default disk images then the Freedom Toaster interface can remain as it is, or can be customized to a specific language or location (i.e. the user interface can be translated into Xhosa or Portuguese or the background image can show the University or store logo somewhere).
