The default software interface loaded with production Freedom Toaster systems is open source software released under terms of the GNU General Public License. Under the terms of this license anyone is allowed to redistribute it and/or modify the software under the license terms. Under such a liberal license anyone is free, even encouraged, to innovate and use the Freedom Toaster software as is, or as a basis for creating a whole new product.

The Freedom Toaster runs on an Ubuntu Linux system, so a working knowledge of Linux will be helpful, but is not an absolute necessity, you can pick up the basics of Linux in a good online tutorial. A working knowledge of Web Servers (particularly Apache) would also be helpful.
